To obtain a WebVista site, read the instructions below, then complete the Site Request Form. Once you have filled out the form, we will e-mail you directions about how to access and start using your new site within two business days.
Site Types
There are two types of Vista sites:
Course Site
A course site is a site set up to fetch class lists of registered students from the PeopleSoft® system. If you know the course designator and term of your class, we recommend this option.
Development Site
A development site enables you to create prototype course sites and to explore WebVista's features and tools. Development site contents can be easily transferred later to a course site. If your class is not yet in the class schedule or has not been assigned a course designator, we recommend this option.
Site Templates
When you request a new site, you will need to specify a template to use as the starting point. A template is a pre-existing site used to "start-up" a new site. Your options are listed below:
The University Template
A default University template has been customized using the University's school colors.
An Existing Site
You may use an existing WebVista course site as a template for your new site. This can be a site of your own or a colleague's site (with his or her permission). To copy an existing site you will need to provide the course designator and semester of the site to copy (example: PUBH 5003, section 1, spring 2005).
Note: Once you have developed a course site, you may want to use that site as the template for future sites, since it will contain your contact information, color schemes, background images, and other Web site elements that you have created.
Collegiate and Departmental Templates
Several colleges, departments, and schools have created customized templates. Check with your college, department, or school administrator to see if one is available.
Eligibility
Any University of Minnesota system faculty member, instructor, or staff member may obtain a WebVista account. WebVista accounts and services are provided for free by the Office of Information Technology (OIT).
Staff members, teaching assistants (TA's), and students may request sites on behalf of a faculty member by providing the faculty sponsor's contact information on the Site Request Form.
Designer/Faculty Sponsor Responsibilities
By requesting a course or development account, the requestor and faculty sponsor (when applicable) agree to receive notices of WebVista server maintenance or upgrade activities and to act responsibly when sharing the account according to FERPA regulations.
